Cole shines as Pirates take game 2

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Gerrit Cole displayed tonight what being an ace is all about. Cole pitched seven strong innings only giving up one run on three hits and walking two. Cole was brilliant and showed why he is a top of the rotation guy for the Bucs. Thankfully, the team was able to back up Cole at the plate.

Gerrit has received the worst run support out of any starting pitcher in all of baseball, but that did not factor in today. The Pirates scored all six of their runs with Cole still in the game to provide him with needed offense. Josh Bell hit a no-doubt three run homer over the Clemente wall in the 6th inning. Three more runs scored in the 7th to lead the Pirates to a 6-1 victory.

Right hander Jacob Turner started for Washington and pitched very well through 5 innings before the Bell home run. The Nats bats were kept very silent with top hitters Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman going a combined 0-8 at the plate. Brian Goodwin drove in the only run on an RBI double scoring Daniel Murphy.

The Pirates and Nationals play the rubber game tomorrow afternoon at 12:35PM. Tanner Roark pitches for Washington against the Pirates Tyler Glasnow.
