The Pirates will send Jeff Locke out for their second game in San Diego tonight in another #LateNightBucn at 10:10PM. Let’s hope this game doesn’t take four hours like last night, but let’s also hope the final result is different as well.
Locke is coming off an outing where he walked seven batters in 4.2 innings against the Brewers, but only allowed two runs and his first start was solid (6.0 IP, 1 ER) against the Reds. Despite his shaky last outing, Locke has a 2.53 ERA in the early season even though Twitter will have you thinking he’s the devil and the worst pitcher in the modern era. Locke isn’t that bad, but a bounce back performance in Petco against an inept Padres offense would be nice.
The Padres will counter with Drew Pomeranz, who is making his debut at Petco after being traded to San Diego in the offseason from Oakland for Yonder Alonso in a swap of heavily hyped busted prospects.
We all know about the Bucs offense to this point—first in average and OBP—but struggling to drive those baserunners in and last night was more of that. Hopefully tonight is different against Pomeranz.
