Yeah there was a final score after the five-inning scrimmage in Bradenton today, but it meant nada as a lot of the Pirates prospects saw action in this game. The big news is the return of Jameson Taillon in basically his first action in nearly two years. You know he had to be amped up to get out there on the mound today. He tossed two innings of work, allowed one run and struck out three.

Black & Gold Game

Today at noon, the games officially begin as the Pirates will play their annual Black & Gold instraquad game at McKechnie Field in Bradenton. The Pirates top two pitching prospects are scheduled to square off against each other as Tyler Glasnow will start opposite Jameson Taillon. Steven Brault, Chad Kuhl, John Holdzkom and Trevor Williams are also slated to pitch. Both lineups are loaded with prospects, but to me the most important thing about this game is that Taillon is healthy and hopefully on the comeback trail to Indianapolis and then PNC Park in the near future.

Recent Signings

Let’s catch up on the minor signings the Pirates have made since the beginning of the year. These signings are all similar in the fact that they’re low risk pickups, at one point all were productive (and some dominant), but were injured or stunk last season and now are looking to bounce back.
